With the start of the school year underway, a renewed focus for Simpson College has been the connection between the college staff, students, and faculty with Indianola residents. Simpson President Jay Byers tells KNIA News the Indianola-Simpson Town and Gown Committee began in 2023, and will continue to try and cement the partnership by having Simpson students be an active part in the community.

“I think we’ve seen some really nice progress.Just a great example is the recent Summer Nights Live event that was this past weekend, there was just a ton of Simpson students, faculty, and staff that were part of the community there. I’ve also recently met with the new superintendent talking about a number of potential things we could be working on, and of course there was the recent Main Street announcement which we were a part of too.”

The Indianola-Simpson Town and Gown Committee is led by co-chairs Simpson President Jay Byers and Indianola Mayor Stephanie Erickson. The committee includes local Simpson alumni, City of Indianola officials, Indianola Chamber of Commerce members, business owners, Indianola School District officials, and Warren County leaders.
