Indianola senior running back Jake Pontier scored five rushing touchdowns and earned another receiving touchdown as he led the Indians to a 69-18 win over Des Moines North as heard live on 94.3 KNIA Friday evening.
The Indians got the scoring started in a slow first half with a Jake Pontier 33-yard rushing score, and Pontier would add scores from 2, 3, and 2 yards out, while quarterback Bo Blake got his first start and threw touchdown passes of 22 yards to Draven Westcott and 69 yards to Pontier as Indianola led 41-18 at halftime. Indianola would add another 53-yard score from Pontier in the second half, as well as a 15-yard throw from Blake to Beau Spenner and a 5-yard rush from Ian McDonald.
Indians head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports he was proud of his graduating senior class of 20, and while they didn’t reach their end goal of making the playoffs and having a run to the UNI Dome, they gave it everything they had out on the field all season long and made their mark on the program.
Pontier crossed the 1,000 yard mark for rushing yards on the season with 155 in the game to go along with his six total touchdowns. Indianola ends the season with a 5-4 record.
