Back in 1983 the late Jim Valvano told his North Carolina State Basketball Squad they would win the Atlantic Coast Conference title even though they were picked near the bottom in the preseason, going so far as to practice cutting down the nets after every practice. If you know your basketball history the Wolfpack went on to win the ACC Tournament which vaulted them to the National Championship. At Twin Cedars, boys Basketball Coach Kale Rodrigues has a similar thought that his Sabers are going to play in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament title game this season. While not going so far as to practice cutting down the nets Rodrigues tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he says if you want something like that to happen, you have to speak it into existence.
Rodrigues: “I keep saying conference championship. Is it going to happen? No idea, but what I do know is all of the boys are starting to believe it.”
Rodrigues adds he has been spending the preseason earning the trust of his team and to make them believe in the same goals as he does. Twin Cedars will start the season Tuesday at GMG.
