Both Pella wrestling teams traveled to Newton for competition on Thursday, with the Dutch falling to both Cardinal teams and the boys winning against Lynnville-Sully in a triangular.

The Dutch girls lost their dual 41-39 to the hosts in a back-and-forth competition. Head Coach Adam Hale says the head-to-head matchup featured two nearly-evenly matched teams.

“There were a lot of encouraging things to take away from the night. Jenna pushed further into her match against a tough opponent and was doing a good job of looking for shots. Isabella fought out of a deep hole to come back and take the lead before ultimately getting a pin against another really tough competitor. Elizabeth continues her strong start to the season. Izzy got the first take down against a strong wrestler and is doing a great job of being really physical with her wrestling. We got nice wins by pin from Emma and Abbi and another win from Kenadi as well.”

The Dutch boys also fell to Newton 52-24, but defeated the Hawks 60-18. Dax Putz and Hunter Smith won both of their matches by pinfall. Find full results here.
