The Indianola City Council met in regular session Thursday evening, which included a discussion about the Indianola Wellness Campus, and the role of the Board of Trustees after the entire board resigned last week. Discussions centered around the development of the Summercrest Fieldhouse project and better communication with the IWC, maintenance and operational funding, and finding revenue sources.

The council accepted the resignations from the board members, and agreed to improve communication and revisit the topic after the new year.

The council also heard a presentation regarding the “Illuminate Indianola” project proposed by the Indianola Public Arts Commission to help enhance the alleyway between 111 and 115 N Buxton Street to the Square. The alleyway is very dark at night, making it hard for people to get to and from the Square, and the project will include lighting and murals on both walls (north and south) in the alleyway to encourage people to visit the downtown district.

The council also appointed representatives to boards and commissions, the final steps of the South K Street Paving Project, and discussed the Kentucky Ridge Development Agreement that included a possible reimbursement of a traffic study that will be revisited in the new year, before going into closed session to discuss real estate.
