The Newton girls and boys basketball teams host Norwalk in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader for their third consecutive home games tonight, while the Cardinal girls wrestling team travels to Pella for a dual with the Dutch.

The Newton girls basketball team is looking for their fifth straight win since returning from Christman break. The Cardinals last lost to Pella on December 20th, and have since earned wins over Des Moines Hoover, Knoxville, Pella Christian, and Oskaloosa. In their last game, Newton defeated Oskaloosa 36-29 on Friday night. The Newton girls enter the game at 8-3 overall, and 2-3 in conference play, while the Norwalk girls are #7 in Class 4A with a 10-1 record on the year. The Warriors are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season last Tuesday night at home to Dallas Center-Grimes.

The Newton boys are 5-4 overall and 2-3 in conference games, after falling 55-45 to Oskaloosa on Friday. Boys head coach Jason Carter said a slow start, poor defense, and missed free throws contributed to the loss. The Norwalk boys last competed on Saturday, dropping a non-conference game at Cedar Rapids Kennedy 70-41, which dropped their record to 4-5 overall.

The Newton girls wrestling team will look to build off Saturday’s performance at Ogden, where they placed 15th in the 27 team field. Notable finishes for the Cardinals at Ogden on Saturday were Kylee Adams placing third at 105 pounds and Ashlyn VanManen finishing fourth at 190 pounds.
