
The Newton girls and boys basketball teams host Albia tonight in a pair of non-conference games.
The Cardinal girls are 8-4 on the season, after falling at home Tuesday to Norwalk 71-24. The Albia girls are 9-1 overall on the year, and are coming off a 58-36 win over Knoxville on Tuesday. The Lady Dees’ leading scorer is junior Lilliam DeMoss, who averages twelve points per game. As a team, Albia is scoring 58 points a contest while giving up 37. The Newton girls average 43 points a game offensively and are allowing just 40 on the defensive end of the floor.
The Cardinal boys are 5-5 after Tuesday’s 45-38 loss at home to Norwalk. The Blue Demons are coming off their first loss of the season on Tuesday, falling to Class 3A #5 Knoxville 73-46. Gage Chance leads the 8-1 Albia squad in scoring, averaging 15 points per game. The Blue Demons are averaging 74 points per game and are outscoring their opponents on the season by 26. Newton enters tonight’s game averaging 51 points per game, while giving up 50.
