Several local residents involved with baseball were among those honored at the annual Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association awards banquet this past Saturday.

Among those were:

Ricardo Alverio, Norwalk (Umpire) – Hall of Fame
Ricardo has been umpiring high school baseball for 38 plus years. He spends most of his time umpiring in the CIML, Little Hawkeye, and Raccoon River Conferences. Ricardo has umpired district and sub-state baseball action for the past 20 years. He has umpired in 14 State Tournaments and 7 All-Star Series.

Jesse Jablonski, Pella – Bill and Sherry Freese Contributors Award
Sheldon Card, Pleasantville – Class 2A District Coach of the Year
Scott Alberts, Lynnville-Sully – Class 1A Coach of the Year
Griffin Hatten, Norwalk – Central District Umpire of the Year

Andrew Swadner of KNIA Radio was recognized with the central district media award for the second consecutive year for his play-by-play coverage and interviews in the summer.
