The Knoxville City Council heard a budget presentation for the Public Works Department Monday night which will be the first of many budget presentations over the next several meetings.
Public Works Department heads Eric Caviness and Pat Murphy were in attendance at the meeting to discuss upcoming projects and answer questions. The Public Works Department consists of water reclamation, streets, stormwater, and vehicle and equipment. The presentations are given each year to break down the annual fiscal year budget for each department, provide the council and public with information regarding spending, and if there are any changes coming or big projects on the horizon that will be funded. City Manager Heather Ussery says that other city officials will present about their departments at several upcoming meetings.
“As we get into that season there are a lot of conversations about the budget for cities. The budget overall needs to be submitted and approved to the Iowa Department of Management by April 30th, so we kind of go back from that date and start doing presentations to the city council for each department.”
The Public Works Department expects a revenue increase of 10.75% for FY26.
