It was a sweep for the Melcher-Dallas Basketball Squads on Thursday against Diagonal as the girls defeated the Maroons 54-46. With that win, the Saints clinched the outright regular season Bluegrass Conference title. Melcher-Dallas already had the top seed in the conference tournament, which starts this weekend. Addi Wadle scored 26 points to pace the Saints, who dealt with early foul trouble and fell behind by three at the half. Lotty Nolte came off the bench to score nine points. The boys had very little resistance with Diagonal in a 63-28 drubbing. The Maroons brought just five players and finished the final seconds of the running clock game with four, due to a player fouling out. Brody Johnson scored 20 points, Reece Chiabotta had 17 and Drew Heaberlin scored 11 with 8 rebounds to put three players in double figures. The boys will continue their tune up for the Bluegrass Conference tonight against arch-rival Twin Cedars. The matchup comes at an interesting point of the season as the two teams will play tomorrow in Seymour, nearly 24 hours later. Regardless of when they two teams play, or in tomorrow’s case where, the message from Saints Coach Matt Bennett is to beat Twin Cedars.

Bennett: “They don’t want to lose that game. I really think that helps to focus at practice and it helps when you play that rivalry game.”

Tonight’s action is a boys only contest due to Twin Cedars girls not being able to field a team at 7:30. Tomorrow night’s contest will be at 6:00.
