The Newton High School boys wrestling team undergoes mindset training every week under head coach RJ Brown. Brown says he firmly believes having the right mental state is a huge part of wrestling.
“Every Monday Daryl Dotson “Dotty”, our Middle School Principal, comes in and does mindset training with our kids. And we are also doing a book study through a Chop Wood Carry Water book. So we actually take time during practice to do that mindset training and read this book together, so we can get them in the right mental state.”
Brown says he never had mindset training growing up, but has seen the difference it made last year and how it has helped this year. He calls it the “secret ingredient” in wrestling.
The Newton Boys wrestling team is preparing for the Little Hawkeye Conference meet this Saturday at Dallas Center-Grimes High School.
