Simpson College presented the George Washington Carver Medal to the Hon. Mike Espy Thursday evening, the beginning of a three-day celebration celebrating one of Simpson College’s most famous alumni. Espy is a former Member of Congress from Mississippi and first African American U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and Member of Congress. Espy is also the current chair of Creating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CFNA), an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of production agriculture in 44 countries. The celebration continues today with an open forum with Espy from 1-2pm in Hubbell Hall, and peanut beer will be sold at West Hill Brewing Company from 4-5pm.
The three-day event wraps up tomorrow morning with a scavenger hunt across the downtown Indianola square with over a dozen participating businesses. Find more information with this story on KNIAKRLS.com.
