Alliant Energy has started the process of removing steel electrical H-structures that span downtown alleys in Newton. Alliant says their subcontractor began the project early this month, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of March.
The subcontractor’s crews cut up and remove the structures, then Alliant then transfers electrical service for customers to the new system. The City of Newton says these service transfers are scheduled during nights and weekends to minimize disruptions during business hours. Alliant Energy contacts property owners directly to coordinate the work.
This summer, once all the H-structures have been removed, the City of Newton will work on plans to restore the downtown alleys.
