The Marion County Board of Supervisors opened their annual budget session on Monday.

This is the annual week where the board finalizes department budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. February 21st is the county’s target date for the budgets to be completed to allow publications and meetings to take place, as required by House File 718. The Marion County approved budget is then due to the State of Iowa by April 30th. On Monday, the board discussed budgets for the road department and sheriff’s department. The total value for computing tax rates in Marion County is just over $2 billion. The budget session will continue today at 9:00 am and is expected to carry on through Thursday.
