The Newton Basketball teams travel to Oskaloosa tonight for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader, in which both teams are hoping to end losing streaks.

The Cardinal girls have lost six straight games dating back to January 10th, when they defeated the Indians 36-29 at home in the first meeting between the two teams. Since falling in that matchup earlier in the season, the Oskaloosa girls have gone 3-4 overall, and have lost their last three games against Indianola, Dallas Center-Grimes, and Pella. With a victory tonight, the Newton girls would secure their first season sweep over Oskaloosa since 2019, and their eighth season sweep in the series since 2007. The Cardinal boys come into the game with a three-game losing streak, after falling to Pella Christian on Tuesday night. The Oskaloosa boys, who defeated Newton 65-55 in their January matchup, are also entering the contest on a three-game losing skid. In addition to trying to get back into the win column, the Cardinal boys are hoping to avoid being swept on the season by the Indians for the first time since 2018.
