
The Newton basketball teams are back at home tonight for a doubleheader against different opponents, with the girls taking on Des Moines North and the boys hosting Van Meter.
The Cardinal girls are 9-11 overall, and end their regular season against the winless Class 5A Polar Bears. Newton has lost eight of their last nine games, including a 58-23 loss at #5 Norwalk Tuesday night. This will not be the last home game for the Cardinals and their five seniors, as they will host Boone next Wednesday in the first round of the Class 4A Region 6 bracket.
The Cardinal boys’ enter the game against Van Meter with a 9-9 overall record, while the Class 2A Bulldogs are 13-7. Both boys teams are looking to rebound from losses earlier this week, as Van Meter fell 72-64 at Roland-Story on Monday, while the Cardinals lost on Tuesday at Norwalk 56-41.
