The Little Hawkeye Conference finale for the Pella basketball teams titled toward Dallas Center-Grimes in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS Friday. The #13 in 4A Dutch girls dropped their matchup to the #6 Mustangs 53-41, while the boys fell 59-48.

It was a slow start in the girls matchup, with DCG building a 16-4 lead that was stretched to 17 at one point in the 2nd quarter. But the Dutch hung tough, and cut that advantage down to five in the 3rd quarter. Emma Walkup finished with nine points and Emerson Wogen added seven in the effort.

Pella’s boys never found their footing and didn’t have a lead against the Mustangs, as the #9 in 3A boys turned the ball over 18 times. The Dutch shot just 37% from the field, and despite moving the game to within one point early in the 3rd quarter, DCG exploded to a brief 14 point advantage in a matter of minutes, fueled by five consecutive Dutch giveaways in that span. Jack McGuire scored nine and Tyson Barnes tallied eight points.

The Dutch girls finish the regular season at 15-7 overall and 8-4 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, which is good for 3rd place, while the boys drop to 15-6 overall and 9-3 among conference foes — a 2nd place finish in the league.

Pella’s girls await the postseason on February 22nd with a first round bye; the Dutch boys are scheduled to finish up in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday and learn their postseason fate on Monday.
