The Norwalk boys bowling team qualified for the Class 2A State Tournament on Tuesday, placing second out of nine squads at the State Qualifying Meet in Newton. The Warriors placed second to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, totaling 3,062 pins during 15 Baker games. Norwalk junior Tanner Housley later qualified for the 2A Individual State Tournament as well, rolling a three-game series of 715 for third place.

The Warriors, who last qualified for state bowling as a team in 2010, scored a 188 or higher in 14 of 15 Baker games. They surpassed 200 in 10 games, including a high mark of 246. Norwalk finished only 66 total pins behind Abraham Lincoln and held off four teams for second place that were within 110 pins.

During the individual portion of the meet, Tanner Housley rolled consistent games of 236, 255 and 224, earning third place with a 715. Sophomore Gavin Housley was the Warriors’ next highest finisher with a 609, followed by Blake Halsted’s 593 and Brytan Bassman’s 551. Jude Soper tallied a 499 and Gavin Phillips added a 372. Halsted opened the round with a 265 for the team’s highest score of the meet.

Before competing at state, Norwalk will travel to Oskaloosa for Friday’s Two Rivers Conference Meet that was postponed last weekend. The State Bowling Tournament will be held at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo. Class 2A team competition starts at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Housley will compete in the 2A individual tournament on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.

BASKETBALL:

The Norwalk boys basketball team was defeated by Class 3A seventh-ranked ADM, 61-54, in Tuesday night’s regular season finale, heard live on 94.3 KNIA and the KNIA3 stream.

The Warriors never led in the contest, falling behind 20-11 in the second quarter and 47-35 in the fourth, but kept fighting back. Mason Johnson made four 3-pointers and scored all 14 of his points in the second half. Grady Sigrist led Norwalk with 19 points and Tim Koerselman added 13.

ADM, now 17-4, won the game at the free throw line, making 15-of-22 while the Warriors had just three attempts. Hudson Lorensen paced four Tigers in double figures with 18 points.

Norwalk finishes the regular season with an overall record of 10-11. They will host Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson in a Class 4A Substate game on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
