A plea of not guilty due to self defense has been entered by a Newton man accused of injuring another man with a pocket knife at a Newton home on Sunday, February 23rd. 

According to Newton Police, 42-year-old Waylon Lavern Anders was holding a pocket knife when he entered an East 10th Street South home at approximately 1:30 am on February 23rd. Officers say Anders walked up to a sleeping Kellogg man and initiated an altercation, which led to the victim’s hand being cut.

Anders is charged with going armed with intent, a class D felony, and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was released from custody on a $7,000 bond on February 25th. A Pre-Trial Conference in the case has been set for March 25th.
