It has without a doubt been a special season for the Knoxville Boys basketball program. The Panthers are the #2 seed at the class 3A State Tournament next week against Cedar Rapids Xavier, and are undefeated at 24-0. Coach Joel Keady drilled into the players all season to take it one game at a time and sometimes, especially later in the season, one possession at a time. Senior player Koby Higginbotham tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they have been taking it one game at a time, but knew just after the holidays, they had something special.
Higginbotham: “My freshman year, I knew we were going to get better as the years went on, especially going to the State Tournament undefeated. We knew after we beat Pella that we had something special here.”
That 64-41 win over Pella sent waves throughout the state of how good Knoxville might be. With Pella’s improvement since that January 3rd night in Knoxville, that win got more and more legitimate. Knoxville will take on Cedar Rapids Xavier next Tuesday at 10:30. You can hear that game live on your radio home for Knoxville High School Sports 95.3 KNIA.
