A 24-year Marine veteran and recent Marshalltown Police Department retiree has been selected as the top candidate to fill the vacant Jasper County Veterans Affairs Director/Administrator position. Jasper County Human Resources Director Dennis Simon recommended Ramon Maxey’s hiring to the five member Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission Wednesday afternoon.
“The last several years of his service, his unit worked as a transition unit for Marines separating after their enlistment was completed. Following his tenure in the Marines, he worked for 12 years with the Marshalltown Police Department. He currently works for a security service that provides armed security at UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown.”
Simon’s recommendation to hire Maxey was unanimously accepted by the Veterans Affairs Commissioners. Simon will now negotiate a starting salary and benefit package with Maxey, and then put a hiring resolution on the agenda for next Tuesday’s County Board of Supervisors meeting. Simon says Maxey plans to relocate from Marshalltown to Jasper County. Maxey and another person were the top choices of the selection committee that reviewed the 19 applicants and interviewed seven candidates. But Simon says the other individual withdrew from consideration over concerns about working evening hours.
