Central Drops a Pair of Baseball Contests in Florida
The Central College baseball team came up short twice Tuesday morning in a doubleheader against Oneonta State University (N.Y.), dropping the opener 4-1 and falling 11-6 in the nightcap.
Central (4-3) got a great start on the mound from Brayden Sawyer in the opener, as he struck out six and walked one but the Red Dragons (4-3) cobbled together four earned runs on seven hits. Offensively, Sawyer’s fifth-inning single plated the only run for the Dutch, while left fielder and leadoff man Jaden Kramer had three of the team’s five hits.
In game two, Eli Rouse made his first collegiate start and struck out five in 2.1 innings, but Oneonta State pushed six runs across in the third to chase him from the game with seven earned runs on his tab. A grand slam by freshman second baseman Jackson Torbit spurred a five-run fourth inning, and the Dutch had eight total hits but scratched out only one other run. Shortstop Garrett Guenther was the only player with multiple hits, recording a pair of singles.
On Wednesday, Central will pick up from where it left off from Monday’s suspended game against Greenville University (Ill.), with the Dutch leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In his first-collegiate singles match Benny Ramker also got to a third set but ended up losing the match 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
In the women’s match, the Knights took all three doubles matches over Central to secure the first point of the match. In singles play, the Dutch couldn’t take a set in any match but Kalina Schubert was able to force a tiebreak at No. 6 singles, before she ended up losing.
The squads will play two more matches today starting with Covenant College (Ga.) at 8 am (EST), followed by the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at 1 pm (EST).
