Two million dollars is expected to be spent replacing the bridge on Jasper County Highway F-62 over Elk Creek, between Reasnor and Sully. But Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says federal and state funding should cover the entire cost.

“$1.6-million of funding will be from our Highway Bridge Program funding, which is federal aid. Then $400,000, or 20% of the cost, will be a state funded match. So the county will not have anything out of our pocket or budget.”

Frietsch says this bridge is being replaced because it can not meet the load requirements under the State of Iowa’s All Systems Overweight permit. The new bridge will be a concrete beam bridge spanning about 200 feet. The contract for the bridge is to be let sometime between this November and January of next year, with construction beginning around May of 2026.
