Numbers are up this spring for the Knoxville Girls Track and Field Squad. Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports 28 girls are out for track and field this season which according to Splavec will allow some of the girls to not be forced into four meets every meet and can concentrate on some of their strongest events.
Splavec: “Spread the love a little more and not have kids in 3-4 events so they can focus on what they need to do. Got a lot of freshmen and that’s a tribute to Joe and Shawna Cunningham and their leadership in the middle school program, so I’m really excited and happy with where the program is.”
Splavec adds most of the freshmen will initially be in relay events but some could go in open events if they develop. Knoxville is set to begin the season on Tuesday March 25th at the Simpson College Outdoor Invitational.
