Newton boys basketball coach Jason Carter is optimistic about the potential of several players on this year’s Junior Varsity team. According to Carter, the group has a lot of depth.
“We played ten to eleven guys on our JV team this year and I am excited to see how they compete over the summer. For a lot of guys there’s not a huge disparity between their games, so I am excited to see them compete and fight for playing time next year. I think we have a lot of talent coming up and kids that can really score the ball.”
A priority over the summer according to Carter, will be getting the Junior Varsity players adjusted to the physicality at the Varsity level. The Cardinals are losing four seniors who played significant minutes in all 23 games this year. Two juniors with those same credentials, Caden Klein and Dawson Maki, will be back next season to help lead the team.
