Jasper County is currently under a ban on open burning. State Fire Marshall Dan Wood enacted the ban Monday, at the request of Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Director Jamey Robinson.
Robinson made the request on behalf of the various fire departments within Jasper County. After investigating the reasons for the need to ban open burning, the State Fire Marshall determined there is a threat to life and property from open burning at this time. The ban will be lifted when Robinson and the fire departments in the county determine the dangerous conditions no longer exist. Violating an open burn ban is considered a simple misdemeanor.
