
A Knoxville woman has been arrested after four charges related to dependent adult abuse.
According to court records, between June 1st, 2023 and January 1st, 2025, Mindy Hanen of Knoxville was supposed to be turning over social security money from a dependent adult who is a resident at Accura Healthcare in Knoxville, but allegedly stole $7,044 out of the residents bank account and did not turn it over. The dependent adult was also a previous resident at Homestead of Knoxville and between April 30th, 2022 and January 1st, 2025 .Hanen was supposed to turn over social security money to both facilities while the dependent adult was there, but never turned it over and allegedly took $7,434 from the resident.
Hanen is also charged with tampering with records after allegedly providing a fake bank statement on December 13th, 2024 in an attempt to cover up the fact she was stealing from the resident. Hanen is also charged on a different instance of allegedly stealing $390.12 out of the residents bank account and not turning over the social security money to Homestead.
This case was investigated by the State of Iowa Medical Fraud Control Unit and Hanen was arrested on March 17th. Hanen is charged with Second Degree Theft Against an Older Individual, a Class C Felony, Dependent Adult Abuse by Exploitation, a Class D Felony, Tampering with Records, and Fourth Degree Theft which are misdemeanors.
