A Colfax man with a history of domestic violence has been sentenced to five years in prison for minor injuries he inflicted on a woman in the presence of two children. Colfax Police say 35-year-old Nathan Christopher Paul and the victim got into an argument on February 4th of this year, and Paul attempted to take the woman’s cellphone out of her hand. In doing so, he hit her chest and left a red mark. Police also said he pushed the women onto a bed. Paul, the victim, and the two children were staying at a Colfax Hotel at the time.
Paul pleaded guilty to 3rd or subsequent offense domestic assault, a class D felony, and second degree harassment, a serious misdemeanor. District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda imposed a five year prison term and $1,025 fine for the assault offense, and a consecutive one year term and $430 fine for the harassment charge. An aggravated misdemeanor charge of child endangerment was dismissed. Paul’s prior domestic assault convictions occurred in Polk County, and date back to 2010.
