Coming off the best finish in school history, the Pella Christian boys golf team will look to duplicate that success with more athletes out for the sport this spring.
The Eagles, who finished as the runner-up at the Class 2A State Golf Tournament in Ames last year, return five of the six golfers who competed in that 66-person field. In addition to the five varsity returners, Pella Christian also has five other members of last year’s team back this season. Eagles head coach Kent Breems says that the ten individuals looking to improve on last year’s finish will be joined by a larger roster, which will result in more competition for the six varsity spots.
“Overall in the program, last year we had 12 guys in the program and this year it looks like we’ll have 23 guys. So, there’s a lot of interest in the sport this spring and it’s going to have to change how we do some things as far as doing some qualifying rounds and things like that, because we didn’t really have to do that last year.”
The Pella Christian boys golf team opens their season on Friday, April 4th at the Saydel Boys Golf Invitational at Woodland Hills Golf Course.
