Newton girls track coach Rachelle Tipton has seasoned athletes and talented newcomers in field events this season. State qualifiers are back this year in Tori White and Addie Hammerly.

“We got Tori back as a state qualifier and state placer in the high jump. We have Elle DeVries joining her. She’s had a really good start to the season and she could easily be over a five foot jumper just like Tori. Throws are looking very good. We have state qualifier Addie Hammerly back in the discus, and Brooke Garvis had a really good season last year in the shot. She has started off better this year than at this point last year, so that’s a really good sign.”

Tipton says she has just over 40 athletes on the team this year, which is a more than in recent seasons

The Newton girls track and field team’s first outdoor meet is the Boone Invite on April 3rd.
