The outdoor track and field season begins today for Norwalk High School as the Warrior girls and boys teams will compete in the Simpson College Coed High School Classic. The meet is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start at Bill Buxton Stadium in Indianola. Eleven schools will compete.
The Norwalk boys participated in a pair of indoor meets earlier this month, setting eight indoor school records at the Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls and the IATC Indoor Championships in Ames. The Warrior girls competed in several sprinting and hurdles events at the IATC Indoor Championships.
Norwalk girls head coach Charity Campbell tells KNIA Sports that she is looking forward to getting the season underway. “I think we’re all real excited to get started,” she said. “We’ve had some up and down practices, but they get tired of running with each other. They want to actually see where their progress is and how well they’re doing in their training, so we’re excited to get everyone involved. Having two relay entries is kind of nice. We can get lots of girls involved.”
Additional schools expected to compete include Carlisle, Dallas Center-Grimes, Greene County, Harlan Community, Indianola, Knoxville, Treynor, Urbandale, West Des Moines Valley and Wayne.
