The Webb Shadle Public Library has been selected as one of 300 participating libraries awarded a $10,000 grant through Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities.
The grant comes through an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL). The library’s proposal includes the purchase of a Neat Collaboration Board, which will enhance virtual services and provide better access to essential resources for community members facing accessibility issues and related challenges. The library believes these virtual services will have a significant impact on the community—especially for those with scheduling conflicts, unreliable transportation, physical limitations, no home internet, or no access to a video conferencing device.
Neat’s devices and systems will help minimize barriers between physical and virtual spaces, support individuals with disabilities, including seniors, those with mobility challenges, mood disorders, and mental or physical impairments.
The grant will support the library’s ongoing efforts to expand inclusive services. The library will host community accessibility conversations in early May to discuss this project and the needs of the community.
