Central Softball Remains in Top 20

The Central College softball team fell five spots in the NFCA national coaches poll after a split doubleheader with Illinois College.

The Dutch, now ranked #20, lost the first game 8-7 before a 9-0 five inning win in the second game of the day. The top two in the poll, #1 East Texas Baptist University and #2 Linfield University (Ore.), remained the same. American Rivers Conference foe Simpson checked in just outside the rankings.

The Dutch will hit the road again this weekend, traveling to Mankato, Minnesota to take on Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) Friday with a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m.

Central Lands Seven on CSC Academic All-District Basketball Squads

Seven Central College players were named to the Academic All-District Division III Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve at the varsity level and achieve a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA. Named to the women’s squad are guards Hannah Dau, Abby Johnson, Samantha Scott, and Jasmyn Williams. Guards Kaleb Brand and Bradley Curren were selected for the men’s team. Williams, Johnson and Scott were selected for the second time in their careers, while Brand was selected for a third time. 

Dau carries a 3.64 GPA with a kinesiology/biology major, and averaged 6.7 points and 1.7 assists per game this season. Johnson carries a 3.97 GPA as a kinesiology major, and was a second team American Rivers all-conference selection this past season after averaging a team-high 12.4 points per game. Scott carries a 3.86 GPA as a kinesiology major, while also averaging 7.4 points per game on 42.8% shooting from the field and 39% from three-point range. Williams carries a 3.77 GPA as an undecided major, and averaged 3.7 points and three assists per game. The women’s team finished with a 15-12 overall record.

Brand is a business management major and carries a 3.82 GPA while also averaging 10.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. Curren is also a business management major and carries a 3.75 GPA, while averaging 6.2 points and 2.1 assists per game. The men’s team finished its season with a 17-12 record and an A-R-C tournament championship.

The all-district honorees are under consideration for CSC Academic All-American honors, and the team will be announced on April 16th.

Central Dutch Schedule Changes

With poor weather forecasted for Saturday, there have been changes to multiple schedules for Central College Athletics teams.

The home track and field meet has been moved to Friday, March 28 at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium. The field events will start at 10 a.m. and the track events begin at 1 p.m.

The softball team’s doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) has been moved up a day to Friday. The Dutch will play a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. in Mankato Friday.
