Newton head girls soccer coach Susan Altemeier has seven players back from last year who started all 18 games, plus two of last year’s three leading scorers. Aliviah Ross led the team in goals with twelve, while Payton Carkhuff had five goals and added three assists. The two return as juniors this year along with returning 18 game starters Merissa Schiebel and Taytem Seitz. Abby Chance, Alex Garvis, and Delaney Woolums also started every game last season and return as seniors this year.  

Returning goalkeepers include junior Gabrielle Bunker and sophomore Zoey Dodd. Bunker played 60 minutes and had 17 saves while giving up five goals. Dodd did not give up a goal and had one save in 40 minutes of play. The Cardinals scored 28 goals last season and gave up 42, while going 9-9  with one conference win. 

The Newton girls soccer team will open the season on Monday at Marshalltown.
