The Norwalk boys track and field team won seven events and placed third in Tuesday’s Simpson High School Classic, held at Bill Buxton Stadium. The Norwalk girls placed fourth.

The Warrior boys tallied 136 points, finishing behind Indianola and West Des Moines Valley in the team standings. Norwalk’s individual gold medals went to Daniel Roche in the 400 hurdles (56.68), Grant Wallace in the 800 (1:58.5), Tony Anania in the 1,600 (4:19.48), Sam Parker in the 3,200 (10:08.43) and Kaiden Kunze in the high jump (6-4.25).

Also placing first was the sprint medley relay quartet of Logan Atherton, Eli Robbins, Kunze and Roche, as well as the 4×400 relay consisting of Cameron Thomas, Wallace, AJ Mosqueda and Anania. Sam Buhrow placed second in the 3,200 and Atherton took third in the high jump. The Warriors also placed third in the 4×100 relay and their second 4×400 team.

The Norwalk girls finished fourth with 72.5 points, trailing Indianola, Valley and Urbandale. The Warriors placed second in a pair of relays. The shuttle hurdle team of Jillian Hammond, Kaia Stoulil, Kinsley Stumbaugh and Leah Crick clocked a time of 1:11.42 and the 4×800 team of Grace DeRocher, Olive DeRocher, Grace Wetzeler and Mia Tice finished in 10:46.03.

Placing third for the Warrior girls were Crick in the 400 hurdles, Grace DeRocher in the 800, Elle Hatlevig in the long jump and the 4×400 relay.

The Norwalk boys will compete at Waukee Northwest on Thursday. Both Warriors squads return to Simpson College on Monday, March 31, for the Warren County Relays.
