Just under a week away from their first outdoor meet of the spring, the Pella Christian track and field teams are excited to get the new season underway.

Both the Eagles boys and girls squads began their seasons by sending a group of 13 athletes to the IATC Indoor Championships on March 13th and 14th, with the girls finishing as the Class 2A runners-up and the boys taking 31st. With the outdoor season set to begin next week, head coach Keith Anderson says that the ultimate goal is to be at the best in May, and that they will use the early portions of the season to help figure out how to get as many athletes to the State Meet as possible.

“With just a large group and a wide range of abilities and upperclassmen versus newcomers, those first few meets we’re going to just kind of treat it as this is a chance to get a time or a chance to get a distance. Something just to get a mark and know where we can build from there. Kids that have been on the team for a while, they know what they can do and what they’ve been able to do in the past, how can we take that to the next level. So, everybody’s got a little bit of a different goal. As a whole we want to keep everybody healthy, we want to make it fun, we want to get everybody involved in some way and somehow. So just as a whole, just going forward each meet’s going to have a little bit different goal for each individual.”

The Eagles track and field teams open their seasons on Tuesday, with the boys hosting their Early Bird meet and the girls running at the Davis County meet.
