In their hopes of returning to the State Golf Meet for the third consecutive season, the Pella Christian boys golf team is putting an emphasis on making each stroke count this spring.
The Eagles return five of the six varsity starters that competed in the Class 2A State Golf Tournament last year, where the squad finished just one stroke back of Beckman Catholic for State Title. In addition to that result, Pella Christian had two other meets in which they took second place by a single stroke. Hoping to flip the script on those runner-up finishes this year, head coach Kent Breems says that the team is working on their mentality for each shot, and adds that he believes his squad’s experience will help them find more success this season.
“We’ve got to be prepared, no matter what the situation, every meet we’re in. The weather is going to be different every time and the opponent might be different every time, we just have to be ready to play our game, be ready to move on from one stroke to the next, and have a short memory if you have a bad shot. But they’ve learned how to deal with playing in meets and learned how from past experiences, which should be very helpful for us.
The Pella Christian boys golf team opens their season at Woodland Hills Golf Course on Friday, April 4th, competing in the nine-team field at the Saydel Boys Golf Invitational.
