The Pella girls soccer team has had their season end among the final four of Class 2A each of the past two seasons, and they are hopeful a strong returning cast will push them back to that spot and more in 2025.
The Dutch will have to do so without the program’s all-time leading scorer in Abby Warner, who graduated with 144 career goals. However, the vast majority of the varsity team returns from last spring season, and Head Coach Mark Howard knows they can provide a balanced attack.
Key returners:
Bri Shannon, SR – 13 goals
Lizzie Neumann, JR – converted 5 goals in 11 shots on goal
Claire Smock, SR – 4 goals
Avary Hunsinger, JR – 3 goals, 9 assists (team-high)
Maddie Holland, JR – 84.3% save conversion in 1396 minutes as goalkeeper
The Dutch have nine of their 11 starters returning and several other contributors as well after finishing the last two seasons in the state girls soccer semifinals. Pella opens with a scrimmage at home against Knoxville at 5:00 this evening before competition officially begins next week.
