The Newton girls tennis team opened the season Monday at Des Moines East and shut-out the Scarlets 11-0, while the Newton girls soccer team lost at Marshalltown 2-0. 

The Cardinal girls tennis team won four of the six singles matches and two of the five double matches 9-0, four of the other five matches 9-1, and the other match 9-2. Next up for the Newton girls tennis team is a meet next Monday, April 7th at Boone.

The Cardinal girls soccer team lost their season opener despite what head coach Susan Altemeier said was a nice effort for their first outing. Marshalltown scored one of their two goals on a penalty kick. It’s a short turnaround for the Newton girls, as they host Norwalk at 7:15 tonight.
