
The Newton boys tennis, girls golf, and boys soccer teams will all be in action today.
The boys tennis team has their first match of the season at home against Grinnell. Play will begin at Newton’s Aurora Heights Park at 4:15 p.m. Cardinal head coach Jared Gerber has some experienced players returning from last season in senior Harrison Oswalt and juniors Evan Marshall and Ethan Valtman, who helped lead the team to a second place finish in the Little Hawkeye Conference.
The Newton girls track and field team travels to Boone this evening to participate in the Boone Invite at 4:30 p.m. Other schools slated to be in attendance for the meet include Marshalltown, Waukee Northwest, and Fort Dodge. This will be the first outdoor meet for the Cardinals, after beginning the season at three indoor events.
The Newton boys soccer team has their second match of the season at 7:15 tonight, hosting their home opener against Marshalltown at H.A. Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals were shut-out in their first match at Norwalk on Tuesday night.
