The comment period for a Newton School District Calendar change for the current school year has ended. The public had from March 28th through last Friday to respond to a survey through ParentSquare, on a proposed revision to this school year’s calendar to make up missed class time. Superintendent Tom Messenger says the district has cancelled school three times, had four two-hour late starts, and one three-hour early dismissal.
To make up for those missed hours, a proposed calendar revision has May 29th as the last day of school for pre-kindergarten students, and May 30th as the final day for kindergarten through 11th graders. The last contract day for teachers would be June 4th. The Newton School Board will hold a public hearing on this proposed calendar revision during next week’s meeting, with a vote on the revision expected as well.
