The man Newton Police arrested for stealing over $2,000 cash from a downtown Newton restaurant’s safe last August has been sentenced on a reduced charge. Newton Police say 23-year-old Quinton Ethan Coker of Collins took $2,010 from the safe at April’s Dinner between 2:15 p.m. Sunday, August 11th, and 12:08 p.m. Monday, August 12th. Officers said their investigation revealed that Coker had access to the safe during closing hours. He was originally charged with 2nd degree theft, a class D felony, but pleaded guilty to 4th degree theft, a serious misdemeanor. District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda has placed Coker on probation for one year, suspended a 90 day jail term, fined him $430, and ordered him to undergo substance abuse and psychological evaluations and treatment.
