Jasper County’s Secondary Roads Department is projecting Property and Road Use Tax revenue to hit $19 million in the coming 2026 fiscal year that begins July 1st. Anticipated expenditures for the year are expected to be $13,651,000. Those are the bottom line numbers in the department’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget approved by the Jasper County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

County Engineer Mike Frietsch says expenditures for the current fiscal year should end up around $11,223,000. He attributes the $2 million increase in expenses to flooding that occurred in May last year and a bridge replacement project on the north side of Mingo.

“That expenditure is accounting for us cash flowing the bridge in Mingo. That’s one of the reasons it’s high. We also have a lot of bridge work that we have to do to the bridges that were damaged last May and need to be replaced.”

Frietsch says the balance on hand heading into Fiscal Year 2026 this July will be about $7.5 million.
