
The Pella Police Department held an awards ceremony Tuesday to recognize the work of its staff. Chief Shane McSheehy led the event hosted on an annual basis.
Lieutenant Shawn Veenstra was awarded the Patriot Award from Employer Support of the Guard. Pella Sgt. Kody Roos, a Captain in the Air National Guard, nominated him for his support and for helping maintain the Army National Guard’s mission.

Officer Mya Irlmeier was awarded the Chief of Police Commendation for her investigation and initial response during a drug diversion investigation.

Sergeant Brad Vincent was awarded the Life Saving Award for his actions following a routine traffic stop, where he found a young man planning to commit suicide and Sgt. Vincent’s action helped that individual from taking his life.

School Resource Officer Mitch Monarchino, Detective Sergeant Justin Bailey, and Lieutenant Bret Haupert received the Chief of Police Commendation for their actions, investigation, and leadership during the response and investigation of the Pella Middle School assault incident last November.
