A Fort Dodge man accused of waiving around a handgun while on a charter bus going through Jasper County, has been given a five year prison sentence. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call from the bus driver about 28 year old Marcus Fair shortly before 1 a.m. on June 2nd, 2023. The criminal complaint says Fair was extremely intoxicated, and the handgun he had was unloaded. He did have three bullets in one of his pockets according to the complaint, and was in possession of marijuana. He was arrested after authorities told the bus driver to stop at the truck stop on the east edge of Newton, off Interstate 80 exit 168. Fair was taken into custody as soon as he stepped off the bus. The Fort Dodge man had a prior felony conviction, and received his five year prison term from District Court Judge Brad McCall. He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a person subject to a protective order, a class D felony, and 2nd offense possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor. The drug charge drew a concurrent 30 day jail sentence and $315 fine.
