A Knoxville man has been arrested for a felony fraudulent practice charge.

According to court records, on December 24th, 2024,  61-year-old Michael Dietrich is accused of making an application for title and registration on a 2015 Nissan Sentra that he did not purchase himself, but rather added his name to the title assignment. The vehicle was actually purchased at Car-Mart in Kirksville, Missouri by a person he lives with. In addition to adding his name to the title, the lienholder information was removed so that the Iowa title would be issued without showing any active security interests.

Dietrich then allegedly submitted a fake bill of sale on an index card with false information on who the seller of the vehicle was, as well as listing the purchase price of the vehicle as $2000. The actual purchase price of the vehicle was just under $17,000. By doing so, Dietrich is accused of knowingly concealing a material of fact and making false statements on the application for title and registration.

Dietrich was arrested on February 26th and pleaded not guilty in late March to Fraudulent Practice First Degree, a Class C Felony.
