The Iowa Legislature continues to discuss possible oversight and regulation changes for collapsed mines in Iowa, with the current sinkhole in Marion County being a large topic of discussion. State Representative Brooke Boden tells KNIA News the oversight and responsibility of the mine is made more difficult because it has affected a roadway, and she supports regulations to help determine.

“We really need some oversight, and some regulation to come in place, and I’m saying that being a Republican who is not a big regulation girl. We absolutely need that so that our county is not on the hook and our taxpayers are not on the hook for continuous sinkholes in our county. Making sure that we partner together with whoever comes along to do that mining, and that we do that appropriately and safely, and that it is regulated.”
