Another work contract associated with the new clubhouse that’s nearing completion at Newton’s City owned golf course has been approved. The Newton City Council has accepted a low $10,958 bid for putting down some sidewalk and a section of a cart path at Westwood Golf Course. This includes a five-foot, ADA compliant sidewalk for access to the new clubhouse building, and the re-connection of the cart path near tee box one. Jerry Keenan Concrete in Newton submitted the low bid. Three other contractors from Lynnville, Kellogg, and Monroe also submitted bids. Newton At-Large City Councilman Randy Ervin believes all the money spent to create the new Golf Course Clubhouse is well worth it.
“If you have not been out to the new clubhouse, it’s pretty neat. You sit out there overlooking the number one hole, it’s just beautiful. An awesome move for our city.”
The City budgeted $1.6 million for the new 100’ x 60’ clubhouse. That includes money for an outdoor patio, which was not included in the construction contract for the building.
