
The Newton boys soccer team got their first win of the season Saturday, beating Grinnell 2-1 at H.A. Lynn Stadium. The visiting Tigers scored the first goal on a penalty kick with 15:17 left in the first half. Troy Ramsey tied it up for the Cardinals with a goal 11:38 before half. Newton’s winning goal came on a free kick with 34:07 left in the game, off the foot of Parker Kennedy. The freshman has two of the Cardinals six goals this season. Ramsey also has two, while Aiden Robson and Conner Vest each have one. Newton goalie Javin Dolan had twelve saves against Grinnell. The Cardinals are now 1-3-2 and will play at Indianola Tuesday.
Caden Klein continued his strong start on the track for the Newton boys at the 2025 Eastern Iowa Track & Field Festival in Iowa City. Klein placed 2nd in the 400 meters at 49.25 and won the 400 meter hurdle race at 54.18. The hurdle time gives Klein is second individual blue standard after breaking the 100 Meter mark Thursday in Oskaloosa. Isaiah Hansen placed 7th in the Boys High Jump at the Iowa City event as well.
