An Iowa DOT closure on Highway 5 south of Knoxville will start at 8:00 am on Tuesday morning.
Weather permitting, crews will close Iowa Highway 5 until mid-September so the bridge over Walnut Creek, 0.9 miles north of Marion County Road G-76 in Marion County, can be removed and replaced.
When Iowa 5 is closed you will follow a marked detour route around the work zone using Iowa 92 and Marion County T-17 (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
